With the 2013 season wrapping up there is only one word that describes Tri-State Speedway’s most impressive year since 2005 – Stellar. “We have had a lot going on this year at the track and our hard work is paying off” states Stephenie Mashburn, Treasurer for Tri-State Karting (“TSK”), the non profit that owns and operates the speedway. “We are reaching out to the public in ways we never have and the response has been overwhelming. Of course with any growth there are growing pains, however we continually identify the needs of drivers, fans, and the track, and have been working towards enhancing our racing program.” Improvements to the track this year already include paved spectator parking, addition to the press box to house an announcer and other track personnel, larger concession variety, and improved grounds keeping. The list doesn’t stop there, however. “Our July 6th race really confirmed the boards beliefs that we need to look into increasing our grandstand size after we reached max capacity in both our grandstands and lawn chair seating areas,” stated Mashburn.
By early August, after several weeks of searching, a used set of bleachers, nearly double in size, had been found. Tri-State Speedway then approached local electric company, Xcel Energy, with a sponsorship proposal to help fund the purchase and renovation of the grandstands. “It didn’t take long for them to jump on board once they saw what the sponsorship money was going towards, and the usefulness of the asset to the track and the community in which we live in,” Jeremy Lovelady, Tri-State Karting Board Member and Xcel Energy employee stated. “Xcel Energy has become a great community leader in the non-profit sector and I am elated that they have chosen to assist us with this large improvement.”
The new set of bleachers were purchased by TSK last week and will be disassembled in their current location, outside of Canyon, Texas, and will be hauled to the track this fall. With the new set of grandstands, TSK will be relocating its current set on the front straight away to the pits for a larger seating area there. With the generous support of T-Miller Wrecker Service and Mike Estrada Concrete, construction should begin in the next few weeks as the current set of pit stands will be moved and concrete foundations poured for the relocation of the general admission stands. Once that set is moved, foundations will then be poured for the new stands on the front straight away and will be reassembled using new seating and walkway materials upon their arrival.
TSK, was formed in 1988 to promote family oriented go-kart and micro midget racing in a drug and alcohol free environment for ages five and older. Tri-State Speedway, which is operated by the board and club members of TSK, was built at its current location in the winter of 1996 and has run weekly races on Friday nights, since May of 1997. 8/1/13- Tri-State Speedway is proud to announce that Xcel Energy, along with Lovelady Motorsports will be co-sponsoring the Tri-State Fair race, September 14th, 2013, being held at Tri-State Speedway. Their sponsorship will provide trophies to the top 3 feature finishers in each of our weekly classes as well as other giveaways sponsored by the local community. "Xcel Energy has been a continued supporter of non-profit organizations for years and I am glad to have them join my family in promoting not only this race, but many more in the future" stated Jeremy Lovelady, Regulatory Administrator for Xcel Energy. "Although this is Xcel Energy's first year as a title sponsor for one Tri-State Speedway's biggest events, they have been an active supporter of the tracks non-profit organization that runs the speedway, Tri-State Karting, donating more than $2,000 in the last two years as part of their employee matching gifts and volunteer programs."

5/13/13 Tri- State Speedway now has two announcers that will be calling the races for us this year. Please welcome Les Montgomery and Beth Grady, both of whom have strong local roots in Amarillo radio!
If you have not filled out a drivers profile, please do so you and your sponsors can be be recognized by them throughout the night. You can either fill out a drivers profile on Friday at the sign in booth or submit your online drivers profile (with a picture) to our email address listed in the "Meet the Drivers" page on this site. We look forward to having them on board for the 2013 season!
5/3/13- We have sold all reserved general admission parking spots for this year. This is a great fundraiser for the track and the money raised will be used to fund future projects at Tri-State Speedway. If you have purchased one of these spots, please get with Stephanie in the concession stand to pick up your orange mirror tag. If you dont have this orange tag displayed throughout each night, you will be asked to leave the front row. This will be enforced by on site security. If you designate another vehicle to use your spot, please make sure they have the orange mirror tag and display it properly.
As a reminder, we ask that you do not park along the front row unless you have a reserved spot. Parking behind reserved parking vehicles or in areas marked "no parking" causes congestion along the main thoroughfare behind the scoring tower and grandstands and prevent safety personnel from reaching certain areas of the track.
5/1/13- With race season slated to start in less than a week, Tri-State Karting board members and Tri-State Speedway officials are busy preparing for what is slated to be one of the best opening nights in years. With a solid attendance of cars at both practices, officials expect healthy car counts throughout the year. While drivers and crews are putting the finishing touches on their cars, Tri-State Speedway crews are finalizing details to make the Speedway an even more enjoyable place for racers and fans including the following enhancements
- Continued Free General Admission courtesy of Street Toyota
- No Hassle VIP reserved parking along the fence with customized plaques
(Limited spots are remaining. Please contact Stephanie in the concession for more info
- Redesigned track surface including more banking
- Asphalt paving in general admission parking lot
- Scoring tower addition for raceceiver attendant and announcer
- Concession Stand upgrades to include partnerships with food vendors: Domino's Pizza, Clint and Sons Beef Jerkey, Spicy Mikes Barbeque, and many more

The Tri-State Karting Board of Directors have unanimously approved an amendment to the restricted 600 class rules to become more consistent with ASCS 2 rules regarding driver age. Effective immediately, the minimum age for drivers in that class will now drop to 8. There will be no restriction on previous years experience at this time. This will better align Tri-State Karting's rules with other tracks in the area and promote growth of one of our newest classes. if you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dewayne Ellis at 806-584-6620.
