2008 Mini 2/Jr. Champ
General:
1. TSK general rules and procedures apply to this class.
2. The age for this class is 11 to 15 years of age. Ages are based on attained age or age as of Dec. 20 of the previous year you are competing in. (A 10 year old driver with driving experience may advance to this class with the approval of the Board of Directors)
Chassis:
1. Any production or custom built racing frame allowed. No yard karts.
2. Frame must be made of steel. No aluminum or titanium.
3. Suspension karts allowed. Only 1 shock/spring per wheel.
4. No part of the kart chassis may be adjusted while the kart is in motion.
Bumpers and Nerf bars:
1. Front and rear bumpers are mandatory, of maximum 1; OD tubing, may not exceed past outside of tires.
2.Nerf bars are mandatory, of maximum 1" OD tubing, may not exceed outside of tires.
3. Bumpers and nerf bars must have rounded ends, no sharp edges allowed.
Roll Cages:
1. Roll cage is required and must be securely welded or bolted to frame.
2. Cage must be constructed of minimum 3/4" OD tubing, no conduit cages.
3. A or H fram construction behind driver required.
4. Any roll bar padding must be fire retardant. No plumbing insulation.
5. Minimum 3" clearance between helmet of driver and top of roll cage.
Seat:
1. High back aluminum or fiberglass seat required. Must extend above top of driver's shoulders.
2. Seat must be mounted to allow 6" clearance from driver to left side nerf bar.
Steering:
1. The steering system shall be direct acting and of suitable design for maximum safety. Rack and Pinion type systems approved. Steering designs using a Pittman arm must be constructed so arm may not rotate over center and cause reverse steering. All collars and other devices used on the steering column shaft shall be secured to prevent possible loss. All bolts used in the steering shall be grade 3 or better and shall be 5/16" minimum diameter. All steering assembly bolts and nuts, including spindles and kingpins, shall be safety wired or cotter keyed. All rod ends shall have universal type swivel joints and jam nuts. The steering shaft shall be solid steel, minimum diamerter 5/8". Shaft must be equal to or greater in strength than cold rolled steel.
2. Steering wheel must be equipped with a quick release device.
3. Quick release device must be bolted to steering wheel with drilled bolts and safety wired together.
Wheelbase, Height and Width:
1. Wheel base is 38" minimum to 63" maximum
2. Height is 30" minimum to 50" maximum (measured from bottom of frame rail to highest point of cage)
3. Width is 34" minimum to 50" maximum (measured from outside tire to outside tire)
Brakes:
1. All karts shall have pedal operated brakes, operating in such a manner to brake the axle adequately.
2. No scrub brakes permitted.
3. All brake caliper bolts, master cylinder bolts, and master cylinder pins must be cotter pinned or safety wired so that both cannot unscrew, allowing the brake puck to fall out.
4. Disk brakes are mandatory on rear axle and must be operational.
5. Karts running fiberglass seats must have scatter shield mounted on caliper housing between brake rotor and seat.
Bodies:
1. Body must be complete. This includes side panels and floor pan. Feet must be protected with nose cone or tubing.
2. Body may be built of aluminum, fiberglass, non-splintering plastic or steel.
3. Tail is optional.
4. Drivers will be responsible to see that their karts have no sharp edges or protrusions that will injure a competitor or themselves.
5. Hood is required.
6. Top wing shall not be allowed in this class.
Axle:
1. Must be live axle kart only.
2. Axle may be steel or aluminum. NO TITANIUM AXLES.
3. Axle may NOT extend past outside of rear tires.
4. Snap ring required on end of axle to prevent hub loss.
Wheels and Tires:
1. Any after-market 5 or 6 inch racing wheel allowed.
2. Any after-market racing tire allowed.
Drive Train:
1. Any shoe or dry disk clutch allowed.
2. Chain guards are mandatory on engine and rear sprocket.
Weight:
1. Kart and driver must weigh a minimum of 325 pounds with an Animal motor and 325 pounds with a Raptor (flathead) motor.
2. TSK Board of Directors has the option to alter weight in this class for safety if needed.
Fuel:
1. Methanol only. No additives.
Ballast:
1. All ballast must be painted white and have the driver's name and number on it.
2. Grade 8- 5/16" bolts must be used to attach ballast, have lock nut and be pinned.
3. Loss of ballast during a race will result in mechanical black flag. Last place points will be awarded if all other post race requirements are met.
Safety:
1. Right side cage net mandatory.
2. All karts will be inspected by safety tech initially and randomly. Safety tech has final word. When a warning is given, kart must pass safety inspection the next race event or will not be allowed to race until corrections are made.
3. All karts must have 5-point safety restraints securely attached to the frame. MANDATORY COMMERCIALLY MANUFACTURED BELTS ONLY.
4. All karts must have arm-restraints. Restraints must be attached to the driver's safety harness, not the steering column. MANDATORY COMMERCIALLY MANUFACTURED ARM RESTRAINTS ONLY.
5. A kill switch mounted inside kart within driver's reach is MANDATORY.
6. Mandatory driver safety gear:
a. Full face, Snell 2000 or better helmet with eye protection, goggles allowed but full face shield recommended.
b. Long sleeve, heavy material jacket (like Levy material) . Fire resistant SFI 3.2 A/1 racing suit recommended but not required.
c. Long pants in good condition (no holes especially in knee area)
d. High top shoes. Shoes must cover ankle area. Shoes must be laced, buckled or secured in the manner in which they were designed. (long socks recommended to protect ankle area)
e. Leather palm gloves required. Prefer fire resistanct SFI 3.2 A/1 gloves.
f. SFI rated neck brace or collar. Helmet restraints recommended but not required. (Hans, Hudgens or D-Cell)
Kart Appearance:
1. Karts must have legible numbers of at least 6" in height.
2. Numbers must be visible from all four sides of the kart and have a contrasting background to number color.
3. All numbers must be registered with TSK.
4. No prismatic numbers allowed.
Motors: This is a stock Briggs & Stratton class Raptor L head or restricted Briggs Aniimal Class
1 Current WKA engine tech rules only.
2. Motor may be mounted on left side, right side or rear of kart.
3. Mufflers are MANDATORY.
4. Briggs Raptor L Head rules: All current WKA rules apply.
5. Briggs Animal Engine Rules:
a. Must use Animal billet flywheel #555625 or current model
b. Maximum of .030" overbore
c. May only use Briggs Animal OEM replacement part #'s.
d. May advance timing
e. Piston may come out .003 to .005 pop up
f. Must run stock PZ slide carburetor only
g. Must run stock Animal valves and springs.
h. May update older model Animal motors to current model stock specifications.
i. May use a fuel pump
j. May use any stock length (3.285") connecting rod
k. May use any air cleaner assembly
l. Camshaft may be stock or dyno AN-001 only
m. The Briggs & Stratton Animal motor shall have a .312 gold restrictor plate (3 hole)
